Extras: Manufactured in mid 1885 as H&H received their “Royal” patent and began engraving same on receiver bottoms. Although not marked as such on this nitro proofed Damascus hammer gun, this gun appears same as those marked as “Royal” so we took the privilege of calling it a “Pre-Royal”. This beautifully patterned browned Damascus barrels have a concave tapered rib and steel bead front sight. The rib is marked “Holland & Holland. 98. New Bond Street. London.” and “Winners of all the field rifle trials. London 1883.” There is also a number “2” on the rib, near the breech. Forend inlays are perfect and covered in engraving. The receiver and locks are engraved with very discernible bouquets and scroll while the fences reveal a fern frond style. All screw heads, trigger guard, and long bottom tang are fully engraved. The stock oval is plain. The wood grain has been properly filled and the nicely figured stock speaks for itself. With H&H case and the following accoutrements: wooden cleaning rod, H&H Rangoon oil, nickel snap caps, nickel oil bottle, H&H marked patches, swabs and pull through swabs in pouch. Case marked “A.D. McC.”. The only issue we can see is an expertly done repair on either side of the forend edge. See images. | LOP: 14 3/16″ DAC: 1 1/2″ DAH: 2″ CAST: None
